Privacy policy
Sprout does not collect your data. There is no account, no sign-up and no server that stores your data. Everything you do in Sprout, your habits, check-ins, plants, Sunlight and rewards, is stored only on your iPhone.
What stays on your device
- Your habits, their weekly goals and reminder times.
- Your check-ins, the plants and pots they grew, and your 66-day counts.
- Your Sunlight balance and the ledger of how it was earned and spent.
- The name you type in onboarding, or later in Settings (used only to greet you on the Today screen).
- Your custom rewards and the treats you redeemed.
- The plants and window views you unlocked in the Shop, and the view you picked.
- Your settings and a few small notes the app keeps for itself: whether reminders, haptics and the sunshine card are on, which Today layout you picked, how far the first-day tips got, and whether the one-time welcome gift was given.
- A small note that Sprout Pro is, or once was, active (see Purchases below).
This data lives in the app's own storage on your device. If you delete the app, it is deleted with it. "Delete all data" in Settings erases everything in the list above and takes you back to the first-run screen, with one deliberate exception: the small note about Sprout Pro stays, because your purchase belongs to your Apple ID (see Purchases below). Sprout does not use iCloud sync in this version, so the app itself copies nothing to Apple's servers. One thing worth knowing: if you back up your iPhone, with iCloud Backup or to a computer, iOS may include Sprout's data in that backup. That is your own backup, under your control, and we never see it.
What we do not do
- We do not collect analytics, usage statistics or crash reports, and we use no outside service for them. Apple itself may give developers anonymous analytics or crash data, but only from people who chose to share it in their iOS settings (Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements, Share with App Developers). That data is anonymous, and we do not add anything to it.
- We do not use advertising, tracking or any advertising identifier.
- We do not sell, share or transfer any personal data, because we never receive any.
- Sprout contains no third-party SDKs or code libraries at all.
Reminders
If you switch reminders on, Sprout asks iOS for permission to show local notifications. These are scheduled and shown entirely on your device, and a reminder shows your habit's name with a short, kind line. Turning reminders off in Settings removes them.
Letters from the developer
Sprout shows occasional letters from the developer. About once a day, while the app is open, it downloads one small public file (notes.json) from sproutgarden.github.io, which is hosted on GitHub Pages. The request contains nothing about you or your garden, and we do not log it. Like any website request, it lets the host (GitHub) see your IP address, under GitHub's own privacy policy. Nothing from your device is uploaded.
Purchases (Sprout Pro)
Sprout Pro subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and holds your purchase history under its own privacy policy. Sprout only receives a confirmation from Apple that Pro is active, so it can unlock Pro features. So that Pro also works offline, Sprout keeps a small note on your device saying that Pro is, or once was, active. "Delete all data" does not remove that note, because your purchase belongs to your Apple ID and not to the data inside the app: if you erase everything, Pro stays yours and you can restore it any time with Restore purchases. We never see your payment details.
If you write to us
If you email sproutgardensupport@gmail.com, for example with Send feedback in Settings, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we use it only to reply and to make Sprout better. Writing to us, rating the app on the App Store and opening the Privacy or Terms links are your choices. The app sends nothing about you by itself.
This website
This website has no analytics, cookies or trackers of ours. It is hosted on GitHub Pages and loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so, like any website, GitHub and Google may see your IP address and browser details when you open a page. About once a day, the Sprout app reads a small notes file from this website (sproutgarden.github.io/notes.json) to show letters from the developer in The Garden Post; nothing about you is sent with it, and like any website, the host may see your IP address when the app fetches it.
Children
Sprout is a general-audience app and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it collects none.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, for example if a future version adds optional iCloud sync, the new version will be posted here with a new date, and the app will say so before anything leaves your device.
